Project description

In 2002, R&SA UK established a central Strategic Change Office (SCO) to plan and manage the portfolio of strategically important projects for the UK business. ItemPlus Consulting was selected to assist with the design and set-up of the SCO and associated governance processes and creation of the initial project portfolio plan.

Two consultants from ItemPlus Consulting were engaged to:

  • Establish effective working relationships between the SCO and key stakeholders in the UK business units and IT delivery team
  • Assist with development of the project governance process used to assess and approve the pipeline of projects being put forward by the business units
  • Create an initial portfolio schedule based on existing projects in progress and potential future projects already under consideration by the business units
  • Work with the UK strategy team to develop portfolio prioritisation criteria and update the portfolio to reflect the strategic imperatives of the UK business
  • Work with the IT delivery team to ensure that the portfolio schedule was credible and to understand the key interdependencies between projects.
  • Provide ongoing management of the portfolio pipeline and update the portfolio schedule on a monthly basis until the approach and processes were established.
