Project description
As part of a major reorganisation, our client created a centre of excellence for engineering and project management to provide expert engineering skills and resources to support, lead and implement a variety of engineering projects in its Exploration & Production business.
The new department had a requirement for an enterprise resource management and planning tool to manage its skill pool of several hundred engineers. The tool would be used to effectively plan resource deployment for a portfolio of projects and measure each engineer’s utilisation. The new department also inherited a number of existing major projects that increased the urgency to have this management tool in place.
Chaucer's scope
Chaucer’s role was to provide expertise in the areas of project and resource management, including specialist knowledge and experience with EPM (Enterprise Project Management) tools. Chaucer worked with the client to understand the requirements, organisation and technical infrastructure environment.
The assignment was split into two work streams, business and technical - working together in a parallel approach that would help
meet the aggressive time scales set by the client to deliver a management tool quickly.

The client was highly satisfied that Chaucer fulfilled their remit by creating two complete project & resource management evaluation solutions based on Primavera P3e and Microsoft Project Server.
Both solutions were successfully delivered on time within extremely tight time constraints. Chaucer is expert in working within environments where the need to deliver top results in a short time frame requires energy, effort and passion to realise maximum benefits to the client.
The solutions were populated with real business data and setup to reflect the E&P business and user experience. The two solutions were proven robust by means of a full evaluation process conducted by Chaucer and our client - meaning that users had confidence that the systems ran ‘out of the box’.
Chaucer also implemented a working pilot version of the solution to demonstrate critical interfaces with the client’s inhouse data warehouse and financial accounting systems
