IT Infrastructure Re-engineering
- Client
- Barclays Bank PLC
- Sector
- Financial services
Project description
As part of a continuing drive to improve service and reduce costs Barclays Bank launched the ‘Data Centre Transformation (DCT)’ programme in late 1998.
DCT was a large-scale change programme (approximately 120 full time equivalent staff) which managed a complex series of changes to the Bank’s operational infrastructure.
The programme:
Directly reduced costs through consolidation of live operations into a single data centre (releasing two centres).
- Used a third party to provide capacity for development and for disaster recovery.
- Improved service through provision of an enhanced (’2 hour’) DR service for all S/390 applications.
- Simplified the underlying IT infrastructure as a base for further cost reduction and service improvement.
ItemPlus Consulting supported the programme manager and the programme team through all programme stages from launch to completion.
The ItemPlus support included: programme management, stakeholder communications, planning, business case and financial management, and technical support with a focus on end-to-end design and performance analysis.
Outcome
The programme was ‘accelerated’ and completed in 2001 ahead of schedule. Scope was extended significantly, and the scope changes were successfully managed into the programme deliveries. All objectives were achieved, and the programme slightly overperformed against the business case.
